The
material is environmentally friendly consisting of 100% solids and containing no solvent. The material consists of a combination of light plasticised resin, aggregate
pigment and extender, heated to around 200° - 220° C (if sprayed) which rapidly cools to
road temperature.
REDA Thermoplastic is formulated to be applied by all
leading makes of Road Marking Machinery, i.e.:
HOFMANN, PLAST-A-SPRAY INTERNATIONAL,
GUBELA, S+S, BORUM, UNIMARK, SAR, SPRINGWOOD, and others. |
Application
can be in one of three ways: SCREED, SPRAY, or EXTRUSION. Formulation and
application equipment varies with each method. REDA offers material and advice on
equipment for all three.
REDA manufactures its Thermoplastic Roadmarkings for two specifications:
Ministry of Communications (MOC) of Saudi Arabia
British Standard: BS 3262:
1989 PT 1
American Standard: AASHTO M 249-79
Below are the common specific description for the three
specifications:
AGGREGATE:
- The aggregate consists of light coloured silica sand, crushed calcite or other
approved aggregate.
EXTENDER:
- The extender is calcium carbonate prepared from natural chalk.
- The total content of pigment and extender is between 18% and 22%.
BINDER:
- The binder is plasticised synthetic hydrocarbon resin.
- The viscosity and wetting properties of the binder at the application temperature give a
homogeneous composition which can be applied uniformly.
NIGHT VISIBILITY
- Retro-Reflective night visibility is achieved by incorporating spherical premix
glass beads during production.
